Travel day. We woke up, got some breakfast at a little cafe in a park on our way to the train station, and then headed off on the train to Bilbao. The man at the train station gave it a bit of crap, taking pictures of my letters from Renfe and from my therapist, and grumbling about not being allowed back on the train, so I’m already worried about the return trip. When we arrived in Bilbao, I had to find a taxi that would allow Maverick (which is far more expensive than the 2 euro bus trip). It also required me calling a taxi company as none of the taxis around would simply let us get in.
Arriving in Bakio, the weather isn’t ideal but that means less people are out and about at this little beach town, which is kind of nice. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the beach which Maverick is very upset about because he got all excited to be near the ocean again.
The food here is delicious, I had some arroz negro for lunch, and the locals are so kind. I found my AirBnb, up on the cliffs overlooking the sea, and out host is so nice. Though I am an incredibly awkward human. Cian is doing his best to make us feel right at home, and I think this side trip is just what we needed. I look forward to seeing San Juan tomorrow.
