Day 10 was simply spent as a travel day. We woke up in Bakio where Cian was kind enough to call us a cab that took us back to Bilbao where we would be catching our train back to Logroño. Luckily, we had some extra time in Bilbao before we needed to be at the train station so we planned on exploring a bit and grabbing some lunch since this is a pretty major city.
The cab dropped us just across the river from the Guggenheim, a famous museum here. The exterior alone is quite interesting. Also, Red Bull had been hosting a world cliff diving event off one of the bridges over the river here so people were bustling around left and right.
We made our way away from the river, back towards the old part of the city, or so I had hoped. Unfortunately, I never really found the popular plaza Cian had pointed out to me before I had left his apartment and we ended up getting just a boring old ham sandwich for lunch. Probably the most disappointing of all the food I’ve had in Spain so far.
Then it was back to the train, which I had been dreading from the incident on the train out, but there was no problem whatsoever. We were able to get back to Logroño just fine and managed to get a room in the same hostel as before. And of course, I got dinner at the same restaurant as I had the other night because it had been so amazing. I think this side trip is just what we needed to reset before heading back out on trail tomorrow morning.
